I love to visit small town war and veterans memorials. There’s something so real and genuine about them that is sometimes missing when visiting the larger, overwhelming memorials. On road trip breaks, or when visiting friends in towns around Minnesota and Wisconsin, we often veer off the road to stop and pay our respects to the vets.

A unique tribute to veterans can be found in Greenfield, Iowa. The Freedom Rock is repainted annually with a patriotic theme. http://thefreedomrock.com/index2.php#/rgallery1/1/
Thanks for pointing that out. I was just in Perry, Iowa for a blog conference! My first time off the highway in Iowa. We usually just drive through on the way to somewhere else, but I’m looking forward to exploring Iowa more.
Hope you enjoyed your time in Perry. The Hotel Pattee is beautiful! I’d be happy to assist in future Iowa trip planning. =)
Thanks, I’ll remember that:) And, yes, the Hotel Pattee is gorgeous!
