My friend Angela and I took the kids on a day trip drive around Lake Pepin in Wisconsin. We visited a little town called Stockholm, which proudly displayed the Swedish Flag around the downtown area of cafe’s, small shops, and art galleries.
Stockholm, population 146, has a bike borrowing program. There are designated areas where you can drop off and pick up bikes to get around town. I had never seen this before, and we all laughed and hummed Wizard of Oz and Mary Poppins tunes as we rode from one stop to the next.
Days like this are getting fewer and far between with my kids pushing further into teenage land, and I’m grateful when we can pull one off.

Deb, Thanks for the great 3 days. Can’t wait to do the circuit on a different day off the week now that we found out some of the stores are closed on Wednesdays. It was fun, relaxing and great to see the kids doing some of the things we did as kids. Will didn’t want to leave The Barn Again Lodge. It was a success!!
Thanks Angela. I’m glad Will had such a good time!
Wow, I really like that bike-borrowing idea. I wish more towns would have it! It’s kinda like public transportation without the buses.
Deb,
I just found your blog – what a wonderful place full if ideas and adventures. I particularly liked this post about your visit to what looks like an adorable old fashioned town in Wisc. and the bike exchange is a stellar idea! I wish I lived in a place near here!
